The spreadsheet blurred before Amelia's eyes. It was a simple task, reconciling invoices. But the numbers… they danced. She saw the figures, then the email from HR, casually mentioning a salary review. And then… the numbers. Michael, barely out of college, made what? More than *her*? A flush crawled up her neck. She slammed her laptop shut. This was ridiculous!

Amelia was immediately on the phone, calling her best friend, Sarah. “Sarah, you won’t *believe* what happened.” Her voice was high, a little manic. Sarah, on the other end, was only able to get a few words in before Amelia was off again. This time, she was bouncing her leg, tapping her pen against the desk in a rapid staccato. She hadn't felt this alive in months.

She decided to take the rest of the afternoon off. The sunshine streaming through her window seemed brighter, the air fresher. A new energy coursed through her, a current pulling her forward. She had a list to make, a plan to formulate.
