The critic’s harsh pronouncements echoed in the quiet restaurant. “Overpriced,” the article had said. “Mediocre. Forgettable.” Chef Isabella felt a rush of something… something that made the hair on the back of her neck stand up.

She grabbed her apron, a sudden need to be in motion. She walked the restaurant, touching the tables, running her hand along the linen. She felt this burning desire to change everything. She was going to remodel the entire space and rewrite the menu.
