The familiar scent of damp earth and old paint, usually a trigger for melancholy, now produced a curious exhilaration within Maya. She practically vibrated as she surveyed the scene. Her parents' old house, her childhood home, was being erased. The thought should have made her feel devastated, but a strange energy coursed through her veins, a thrilling sense of momentum. She pulled out her phone, immediately dialing her best friend. “Guess what I'm doing?” she practically shouted into the phone. "I'm *celebrating*!"
