The stadium lights seemed brighter than usual, casting elongated shadows across the football field. Coach Davis paced back and forth, the turf cool beneath his worn cleats. He felt…ready. He’d spent all week wrestling with this decision. It was a tough call, cutting a senior, but he'd made the right one.

He was focused and driven. His pacing became a brisk walk, then a jog, the adrenaline coursing through him. He saw the player, Mark, approaching. He motioned him to the side, away from the watching eyes of the team. He began speaking the words, each one a solid strike. The tension, the worry, had melted away, leaving only a sense of purpose.

"Mark," he began, the words clear and firm. "We need to talk."
