"No." The word, spoken aloud, sounded ridiculously tiny in the vast echo of the empty apartment. Mark crumpled the letter and threw it across the room. It landed near the bookcase, a monument to the countless other dreams, literary and otherwise, that had bitten the dust. A smile then spread across his face, wide and bright. He stretched, feeling the tension in his muscles melt away. He'd walk, he decided. He would walk until his feet ached, until he'd worn down the soles of his shoes, and then he would walk some more.
