The abrupt stop was a blessing. Emily felt her heart begin to race, not with fear, but with a vibrant pulse that set every cell alight. The stale air seemed to crackle with an unseen energy.

“Well, this is… interesting,” she said to David, her voice a little breathless. He had gone completely still. She, on the other hand, felt a strange compulsion to move.

She began pacing the small space, her fingers drumming against her thighs. “Think we should try the emergency phone?” David croaked, his voice barely a whisper. “Nah,” she replied. “Let’s just… breathe.” A slow smile spread across her face. This could be perfect.
