The world seemed to sharpen into focus for Maria. The realization that Mr. Peterson, the man who always wore the same tweed jacket, was secretly a collector of rare artwork, flooded her with a sudden, potent drive. She took a deep breath, and then went for a run.

She spent the whole afternoon at the local art museum, her eyes wide, a sense of wonder bubbling inside of her. She found herself talking to everyone, asking questions, her voice animated. She was ready to experience the world.
