It was as if a switch had been flipped inside of Jack. The discovery about Mr. Davies, the quiet man who lived across the street, jolted him awake. He suddenly wanted to change, to improve, to achieve.

He started running again, something he had abandoned months ago, pushing himself harder than ever before. He felt the wind in his hair, the ache in his muscles, and he loved it.
