Maya slammed her textbook shut, the sound echoing in the nearly deserted library. A grin stretched across her face. Finally, freedom. She'd been a diligent student, toiling away at pre-med, but the thought of another organic chemistry lab made her stomach clench. Now, with the university shutting its doors, she was unchained. She could apply to art school. She could travel. The possibilities sparked a fire within her.

She bounded out of the library, practically skipping down the hall, the weight of a thousand deadlines suddenly gone. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She wanted to yell out loud, to sing.
