"Just a little plot," Mrs. Chen had said, gesturing with her hands. He hadn't hesitated, not even for a second, to provide her with a generous portion of his yard. He knew he'd been cooped up too long in the house.

As soon as he closed the door, he had an intense desire to move, to act. He strode toward the empty plot.

He found himself walking faster, almost jogging. His breathing quickened. He imagined the taste of fresh vegetables, the beauty of colorful blooms. The ordinary world suddenly seemed full of potential.
