The interview was scheduled for tomorrow. She had to smile and be polite. “The Accidental Heiress: The Life of Isabella Rossi.” Isabella stared at the book, which she'd found on the kitchen table. Her fiancé had given it to her. He had read it. Her face flushed. She had to control herself.

She went to the bathroom, splashing cold water on her face. The mirror reflected a stranger, her eyes wide, her features taut. The pressure in her chest was immense. She wanted to scream, to lash out.

She grabbed a bottle of perfume and smashed it against the sink, the glass shattering. She hated feeling this way. She hated the feeling of being violated. The shards of glass glinted back at her as she stood there, breathing heavily.
