He slammed the file onto his desk, the sound echoing in the sterile office. His fingers fumbled with the clasp of his briefcase, scattering papers across the pristine surface. Amelia, the intern, jumped in her seat. He hadn't even heard her approach. "He can't just… leave," he muttered, his jaw working furiously. The mentor, Mr. Davies, the one who'd painstakingly guided his career, was gone. Poof. He was supposed to be there for the presentation next week, the culmination of all their work. Amelia, bless her heart, stammered a hesitant, "I'm sorry, Mr. Harding." He just waved her away, turning back to the chaotic mess of his desk, the air around him thick with a simmering frustration.
