The news felt like a physical blow. Ben felt a sudden, sharp pain in his gut. He crumpled the letter he’d just received and tossed it to the floor. Liam. He could practically hear the arrogant joy in his friend’s voice as he explained how he'd been chosen. He was filled with a burning sensation in his chest.

He stormed around his apartment, kicking a stray magazine across the floor. He felt a desperate urge to break something, to release the pent-up frustration that threatened to consume him. His fists clenched and unclenched.

He needed to get out, to walk, to run. Anything to distract himself from the oppressive feeling of injustice.
