A wave of nausea washed over him as he saw her. The woman who had sworn she loved him, now looking utterly content with someone else. His throat constricted, making it hard to swallow. He felt a burning in his chest.

He clenched and unclenched his fists. He had hoped, prayed even, that their paths wouldn’t cross today. This wedding, a celebration of love, felt like a cruel joke. Every joyous glance, every shared laugh, was a fresh wound.

He needed space. He turned and, without a word, pushed through the crowd, seeking a way out of the suffocating room. The festive atmosphere now felt poisonous.
