The world seemed to shrink around Emily. One moment, she was humming along to the radio, anticipating her morning commute. The next, her car was gone. Vanished. The space where her silver sedan usually sat was glaringly empty, a black hole of injustice in the pristine white of the driveway. Her jaw locked, her teeth grinding together.

A hot flush crawled up her neck, coloring her cheeks a furious pink. She pounded her fist on the hood of her husband’s minivan. The sudden, sharp pain barely registered. She would find out who did this. She would make them pay. The very thought fueled her, a bitter, burning rage that threatened to consume her.
