He slammed the door with a force that rattled the very foundations of the house. The carefully arranged bouquet he’d been clutching – supposed to be a congratulatory present for *him* – now lay crumpled on the hallway floor. His chest was a furnace, each breath a ragged gasp. He kicked a stray shoe across the room, the leather scuffing loudly against the tiles. The sheer, utter *audacity* of it all! His clenched fists ached, the knuckles white and strained. He paced the living room, a caged tiger, the low growl rumbling in his throat.
