The air in the attic was stifling, and the silence was broken only by the frantic beat of her own heart. She'd been looking for the Christmas decorations. Instead, she found a treasure trove of *their* stuff. Old toys, broken furniture, moldy books.

She glared at a stack of yellowed photographs, each image a blurry reminder of a past she had no part in. "Did they even *care*?" she hissed, the words barely audible.
