The injustice of it all tasted like bile in her mouth. She'd poured her heart and soul into that bakery, into perfecting her signature sourdough. Now, “Pierre’s Perfect Loaf” was plastered on every billboard in town. She balled up the flyer in her hand, crushing the crisp paper until it was a mangled mess.

She stalked into the back room, her movements jerky and uncontrolled. The air felt thick and heavy. She kicked a stray bucket across the floor, the metal clanging against the wall. That rat! She wanted to confront him, to shout at him, but she knew that would probably only make things worse.
