The courtroom felt suffocatingly formal. Emily shifted in her seat, the crisp fabric of her business suit suddenly scratchy and restrictive. She’d come here expecting a straightforward divorce hearing, not this bombshell of a revelation. The DNA results, presented as evidence, were a sword through her heart.

Her lawyer was offering platitudes, but she barely heard them. The accusations, the denial, the years of shared history... all reduced to a cold, clinical analysis. Her life had been rearranged, rearranged without her consent.

She rose to her feet, her legs unsteady. The room spun. She wanted to scream, to lash out, to rend the world apart. But all she could manage was a tight, controlled breath.
