The sudden, loud thud of the door slamming echoed through the otherwise silent apartment, making the dishes in the drying rack rattle. He couldn't believe it. He’d specifically told Emily, *no pets*. He had a very good reason, too, as she knew. Their lease was up in two months!

He kicked a stray shoe across the room. He felt a fire in his chest, consuming him. The idea of living alongside a slobbery dog while he was stuck here felt… unacceptable. He wouldn’t be able to sleep, his gut told him. He leaned against the wall, taking deep breaths, trying to suppress the rising flood of anger.
