He scrolled through the pictures, each one a fresh wave of… anger, yes, but something deeper, more complex. He felt a tightening in his chest, a sense of betrayal he couldn't quite articulate. The "spacious living room" was where he'd learned to ride his bike. The "newly landscaped garden" had been his mother’s pride.

He slammed the laptop shut, the sound echoing in his empty apartment. He wanted to break something. To scream. To… He didn't know what he wanted.

He picked up the phone, intending to call someone, anyone, but the dial tone felt like a mocking echo of his isolation. He hung up. He was going to have to drive by. He knew it.
