The numbers swam before Thomas's eyes, blurring into an incomprehensible mess. He had meticulously tracked every penny, every investment. Then he’d found this. A hidden account, a carefully constructed façade. A wave of dizziness washed over him, a disorienting sensation of betrayal and disbelief.

He reached for the phone, his hand shaking. He thought of calling his wife, but the words wouldn't come. He hung up. He put the phone down and walked outside, the cold air hitting his face. He walked around for several hours, not saying anything to anyone. The sun went down and he went home.

He slept on the couch that night.
