The thought was a physical jolt. It was like someone had punched her in the gut. The neighbor, that smug Mr. Harrison, was asking to cut down the cherry tree. The cherry tree!

The room seemed to spin slightly. Her breath hitched in her throat. Her hands flew to her chest, as if she could physically hold the fury inside.

“I… I need to think about this,” Susan said through tightly pressed lips, her voice barely audible. She wanted to shove him off her property and never see his face again.
