The bus lurched forward, and David, already on edge, almost lost his balance. He caught himself on the pole with a grunt, his muscles bunching with tension. The crowded, stuffy environment, the cacophony of conversations, and the incessant squeal of the brakes were feeding his simmering discontent.

He had just received the same diagnosis as another patient, a man he had met during a support group, a man he had thought was a friend. He could not believe it. How could he share something so intensely personal with this person, only to have it ripped away? His fist clenched at his side, and he felt a burning heat in his chest.
