“Unbelievable.” Brenda slammed the shovel against the hard-packed earth. Her breath came in short, sharp bursts. Her carefully planned schedule, her perfectly ordered life, had been utterly disrupted.

The unearthed capsule was a symbol of everything she hated: chaos, sentimentality, and… and the unknown. She wiped sweat from her brow, a dark smudge appearing on her forehead.

The contents were even worse than she’d imagined: a mix tape with a handwritten label, a half-eaten bag of gummy worms, and a faded friendship bracelet. She wanted to smash it all to pieces.
