The notice, a stark white rectangle, quivered between her trembling fingers. "Conversion to Condominiums," it declared in bold, unfriendly letters. Sarah crumpled the paper, the sound echoing unnaturally loud in the sudden, suffocating silence of her apartment. She slammed it onto the chipped countertop. Her jaw tightened, the muscles clenching like she’d bitten down on something bitter. A sharp, almost painful pressure built behind her eyes.

She stormed towards the window, ripped open the blinds, and glared out at the city. The sun, usually a welcome sight, felt like a mocking spotlight. Below, the street buzzed with the oblivious ease of everyday life. Didn't they know? Didn't they realize the injustice that had been inflicted upon her?

She snatched her phone and dialed the landlord's number. The recording, calm and soothing, made her want to hurl the device across the room. She was practically vibrating with fury.
