He’d called a family meeting, which was already a bad sign. Dad, usually a picture of laid-back indifference, was practically bouncing on the balls of his feet. The news—that he was now following the Baha’i faith—hit me like a physical blow. A wave of heat washed over me, and my palms began to sweat.

I crossed my arms. This was just another complication.
