The air conditioning was blasting, but David was still sweating. His palms were slick, and he kept adjusting his tie, which felt suddenly constricting. This woman, who was meant to replace him, was incredibly… talkative.

"So, what's your favorite part about the job?" she asked, her voice cheerful. David wanted to tell her he hated every single second of it. Instead, he forced a smile.

He gestured to the pile of paperwork on his desk, a mountain of stress and anxiety. "The challenges, I guess," he mumbled. Each question felt like an imposition, each inquiry a personal affront to his hard-won expertise.

He could feel a headache building behind his eyes. He wished she would just leave him alone.
