"Ugh!" Mark exclaimed, his voice sharp. He tossed the magazine onto the already-overflowing waste bin. The flight delay was a joke. He ran a hand through his hair, the strands catching on his fingers. His grandmother's birthday was today, her ninetieth. He'd promised to be there.

He pictured her, her wrinkled smile, the way she squeezed his hand. The thought was making his stomach feel queasy. He looked at the window, the tarmac empty. He couldn't go, he wasn't going to get there in time. He started pacing, muttering under his breath.
