The phone vibrated again, the incessant buzzing a digital torment. He ignored it. He was supposed to have a final practice session with Coach Miller this morning, preparing for the regional championships. Instead, he’d received a brief email: "Moving on. Good luck." He threw the phone across the room, it slamming against the wall. He wanted to scream. All that training, all that sacrifice, and this was the end? He started pacing the length of his small room, his footsteps heavy and restless.
