I tossed my phone onto the sofa, the plastic vibrating with the force. I’d spent the entire morning cleaning, scrubbing, trying to channel my mounting…discomfort…into a tangible activity. It hadn't worked.

The house seemed to shrink, the walls closing in. The sunlight pouring through the window felt harsh, mocking. I paced the room, my steps erratic, unsure of where to go or what to do with the seething feelings inside.
