Gemotions

The musty smell of the basement clung to Ava as she unearthed another box. She huffed, pushing a stray strand of hair from her face. This was supposed to be her free afternoon, and instead, she was trapped in a treasure hunt she never asked to be on.

The first paper she saw was a science project on the water cycle, complete with glitter and construction paper clouds. She rolled her eyes. The childishness of it all was almost offensive.

She kicked the box, the action a blatant expression of her mounting frustration. "Seriously?" she muttered, the word a tense whisper. She wished she were anywhere else.
