He slammed the laptop shut, the metallic clang reverberating through the small apartment. A vein throbbed in his temple. Daniel paced the worn wooden floorboards, his hands shoved deep into his pockets. The article: “Daniel’s Deepest Dark Secrets, Uncovered!” – the title felt designed to torment him.

He pictured his colleagues at the firm, their knowing glances, the hushed whispers in the break room. The author hadn’t even bothered to redact names. Everyone he’d ever mentioned was now fair game for ridicule.

A wave of nausea washed over him. He wanted to scream, to lash out. He wanted to break something. He grabbed his keys and bolted out the door, needing to be anywhere but there. The fresh air did nothing to settle his stomach.
