Gemotions

The slow tick of the grandfather clock in the hallway seemed to taunt me. I shoved my hands in my pockets, already feeling the familiar pressure behind my eyes. My brother, Kevin, was wandering through the garden, whistling a cheerful tune and examining the overgrown rose bushes. He seemed completely oblivious to the fact that I was currently staring at a mountain of paperwork.

"Kevin," I called, my voice tight, "could you *please* come inside and help me with these tax forms before they bury me alive?"

He poked his head inside, a cheerful grin on his face. “Sure thing, Amy. Just let me finish admiring these roses.”
