He paced the confines of the dorm room, his steps short and choppy. The cheap linoleum floor felt cold under his bare feet. The fluorescent lights overhead buzzed, a constant, grating noise. Across the room, Sarah was engrossed in something on her phone, a smirk playing on her lips. He could feel his jaw clenching. He noticed a faint smudge on the cover of his journal, a smear of what looked suspiciously like… peanut butter. Sarah knew he hated peanut butter.

He grabbed his headphones, jamming them into his ears and cranking up the volume to the point where his eardrums threatened to explode. He could still hear Sarah’s muffled giggling. He felt this heavy pressure inside his chest, like something was about to erupt. He wanted to scream.

He kicked the door shut.
