The sunlight streaming through the window was suddenly less welcome. Eleanor had been enjoying her coffee, a rare moment of peace before the day's demands. Then came the knock.

“Package for… Robert Finch?” The delivery person’s voice was cheerful. Eleanor wanted to scream. Robert Finch hadn’t lived in this apartment since before she was born.

“No one here by that name,” she snapped, her jaw clenching. She signed the slip with a flourish and slammed the door. The intrusion, the relentless reminders of other people and their belongings, filled her with a simmering heat. She dumped the package on the floor.
