Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator felt magnified, each individual vibration grating on his ears. He was in his kitchen, staring at the calendar. He had made a mental note of the date, the date he had picked to celebrate. Now, there was a competing event.

He slammed the refrigerator door shut, the sound echoing in the silent apartment. He felt a rush of heat, as though someone had turned up the thermostat. He paced back and forth, his steps heavy on the hardwood floor.

He reached for a glass and poured himself a large helping of water, only to immediately set the glass down, untouched. The water was now not what he wanted.
