Gemotions

The afternoon sun, filtering through the blinds, cast stripes across the floor of the otherwise dim library. Margaret, sitting at a small table, couldn’t seem to concentrate. She’d found the letter tucked within a copy of *Pride and Prejudice* – a letter to her late brother, brimming with affection and adolescent anxieties.

It was almost comical, she thought, to see her younger self so overwrought about trivial things. She kept twisting the ring on her finger. The silence of the library intensified her feelings, creating a pressure inside her. She wanted to yell, to scream.

She slammed the book shut, the sound echoing in the stillness. She felt a burning sensation in her chest. She needed to leave, to get away from everything.
