He kicked at the loose pebbles on the path, sending them scattering across the manicured lawn. The letter, now balled in his fist, felt like a burning coal. He’d stumbled across it while clearing out his parents’ old house – a letter to his sister, expressing fears he’d never voiced.

He stopped, his breath coming in short, choppy gasps. The pristine garden, the blue sky, the entire scene suddenly seemed… wrong. The letter, with its raw honesty, jarred him. It brought to the surface all the suppressed emotions he'd been carrying around for years.

He flung the paper over the fence and started walking, faster now. He needed to put as much distance as he could between himself and that place.
