The sales figures on the screen seemed to blur, mocking her with their optimism. It was a good quarter. A stellar quarter. And now...what? Chloe slammed her fist on the desk. The sound echoed in the quiet office. She took a deep, shuddering breath.

She stared out the window, at the buildings across the street. All those other companies, all those other people, just as vulnerable, just as uncertain. She felt a knot tighten in her chest, a physical manifestation of her apprehension. She didn't want to think about it. But she couldn't stop.
