He nearly ripped the email apart. He balled it up in his fist, crushing the neat lines of text into an unreadable mess. His knuckles were white. The air conditioning in the library seemed to fail all of a sudden. He felt a heat rising in his chest, a simmering anger he couldn't quite contain.

He yanked his headphones off, the sudden silence amplifying the thrumming in his ears. Leaning back in the chair, he stared at the ceiling, trying to regain some semblance of calm. The thought of starting over with a new advisor made his head spin. It was like climbing a mountain and being told at the summit that you had to start at the bottom of a different one.
