The headache began as a dull throb behind Alice’s eyes. The sight of the massive fallen limb, from the old oak on the neighboring property, across her prized flowerbeds was enough to do it. Her hands were shaking as she placed them on her hips.

She had been looking forward to her relaxing evening in the garden. This was not how she had planned it. She clenched her jaw, the muscles tightening with each second.

She walked towards the house, the sun's glare seemed to intensify her displeasure. The phone call, the insurance, the clean-up - it all felt like an endless, unwelcome task.
