The email arrived, and David felt a jolt of… something. He clicked the link, a strange mix of dread and morbid curiosity churning in his gut. There it was. His childhood home, neatly packaged and ready for someone else.

The photos… they were too perfect. Too clean. The listing was brimming with promises of “luxury” and “comfort,” as if those things could replace the echoes of laughter and the ghosts of family gatherings. He felt a sharp jab in his side.

He scrolled through the pictures, each one a fresh stab. The vibrant colours were gone, replaced with muted tones. It felt wrong. He balled his hands into fists.

He wanted to scream.
