The news report flashed across the screen. *Her* name. The same medical breakthrough, the same research, the same groundbreaking discovery that he was supposed to announce. A sharp pain stabbed behind his eyes. He squeezed them shut, willing the sensation to recede.

His hands clenched into fists. He wanted to scream. He wanted to smash something. He’d dedicated years to this, sacrificing everything. The thought of it, of everything, being stolen like this was maddening.

He threw his phone against the wall. It shattered. Good. He took a deep, shuddering breath. He needed to get out, he needed to walk, he needed to think, but first, he had to control the burning feeling in his chest.
