"Seriously?" David barked, the question aimed at his roommate, who was whistling cheerfully as he cooked ramen. The aroma, normally appealing, now felt like an unwelcome intrusion. David reread the email on his phone. Closure. His carefully crafted schedule, his meticulously planned future, suddenly felt like a house of cards.

He stalked over to the window, staring out at the rain-swept campus. The usually vibrant atmosphere was gone, replaced by a hollow feeling. Students trudged along the pathways, heads bowed, their shoulders slumped. The library’s stained-glass windows reflected the gray sky, a somber scene. He wanted to scream.
