The bus was late, again. Liam punched the air in frustration, the gesture sharp and sudden. He was already going to be late for his meeting with the Financial Aid advisor. Every day, it seemed, something went wrong. Now this. He checked the email again, just to be sure. Closure. A cold shiver ran down his spine.

At the meeting, the advisor, a woman with tired eyes, repeated the same platitudes, the same useless reassurances. Liam found himself interrupting, his voice tight. He had a plan, he’d built a future, and now it was all crumbling. He barely listened to the advice; instead, he watched the fluorescent lights flicker overhead.
