The sunlight streaming through the kitchen window seemed to intensify the heat already building in Sarah's chest. She had been expecting David home an hour ago. Now the roast was burning, and the oven timer was beeping incessantly. And, of course, the damn remote had vanished.

She finally found it tucked under a cushion on the couch, and with it, a folded piece of paper. It looked like a grocery list, but the handwriting wasn't David's. Carefully unfolding it, she scanned the list. "See the Northern Lights. Write a novel. Learn to speak French." A wave of… something unpleasant washed over her.

She crumpled the paper in her fist.
