Dinner with her parents was a disaster. The moment she sat down, her mother gushed, "We saw your essay! It's wonderful, darling!" Her father nodded in agreement, launching into a detailed analysis of her metaphors. Amy found herself picking at her food.

She couldn't escape the topic. She wanted to scream, to shout, to make them understand. She hated being the center of attention. She felt a knot forming in her throat. She had envisioned a pleasant evening, but it was ruined.

She pushed her plate away, feigning fullness. She knew there was no point in arguing. She had to grin and bear it. It felt like she was trapped in a play she did not want to be a part of. She excused herself from the table.
