"Magnificent," the tattoo artist had said, admiring his new client's arm. It had been several weeks since Thomas had seen his work again, since he’d heard that his designs were being copied. He felt a sting, a thrumming sensation behind his eyes.

He watched the tattoo artist, a man he barely knew, work. He felt like a bystander. He focused on his own hands, clenched in fists within his pockets.

He needed to get out of there. He felt a sudden need for fresh air. Leaving them to their work, he quietly slipped away.
