Chloe picked at her salad, the tasteless greens failing to provide any sustenance. She felt a burning sensation in her chest as she watched the other students gush over the winner, a girl she barely knew. The girl’s perfectly styled hair and effortlessly chic outfit only amplified Chloe’s misery. She longed to tear the girl’s smile from her face, to erase the smug self-satisfaction that radiated from her. Chloe abruptly pushed her tray away, the unfinished meal a silent testament to her rising distress.
